Buckeyes Named Most Popular Team in College Football
When it comes to college football, sustained success both on and off the field will result in an uptick of fan popularity. The Alabamas of the college football world continue to increase in fan support the more they win, a trend that likely won't change any time soon.
This is the case for the Ohio State Buckeyes as well, who have consistently fielded one of the best teams in the country - so much so that they were named the most popular college football team according to AL.com, based on data from marketing research firm SBRnet.
Per their report, the Buckeyes vaulted into the top spot with a staggering 6.1 million fans. To make it even sweeter for Ohio State the team in a distant second is arch-rival Michigan, with 4.4 million fans.
Of course, popularity amongst fans doesn't translate to wins on the field but it does show how well the Buckeyes have gone about building a perennial contender. Even with the two straight blowout losses to Michigan, Ohio State finds its fan base still growing.
However, while it doesn't lead directly to wins, it could still have an impact on those results. More fans has several positive impacts for the Buckeyes, from more revenue to the potential of more donations to NIL collectives that could in turn benefit the players.
The Buckeyes have built one of the most recognizable brands in college sports, and a team that is an annual threat to win the national championship - a trend that will only continue to bring in more fans the more they continue to win.
