'Got Everything Off Our Chest': TreVeyon Henderson, Ohio State Rift is Thing of the Past

TreVeyon Henderson played in just eight games last season, missing the College Football Playoff with a season-long lingering foot injury.

The Ohio State Buckeyes were forced into a running-back-by-committee situation due to injuries plaguing the room.

TreVeyon Henderson was one of those most affected by injuries, as torn ligaments in his foot required surgery and for him to miss the College Football Playoff — an injury he first sustained against the Toledo Rockets on Sept. 17.

He tried to play through the pain throughout the season but missed three games before returning against the Maryland Terrapins. Henderson left that game early after 11 carries for 19 yards before missing the rest of the season.

Henderson opened up about his frustration with the lingering injury that limited him to just 571 yards and six touchdowns last season, as well as being shuffled around with running backs Miyan Williams and Dallan Hayden, which caused him to question his future as a Buckeye.

"There was some stuff involved around this injury that I didn't respect — not even coming from outside but inside of the building," Henderson told The Columbus Dispatch. "It hurt me a lot."

However, Henderson said an open conversation between him, head coach Ryan Day and running backs coach Tony Alford helped iron things out.

"I'm definitely locked in now that we got everything off our chest," Henderson said.

Day told The Columbus Dispatch that he gives Henderson "a lot of credit" for playing through the pain, an injury the then-second-year running back said would hurt on tackles "even if it wasn't a hard tackle" and on cuts.

"We talked about how when someone's trying to fight through something, giving a lot of detail on that isn't great for him," Day said. "But at the same time, there's a lot of questions on what's going on, and there's an unknown. That's a hard feeling for a player."

Henderson will have his opportunity to get back to his production level from his freshman season in which he broke the program's freshman touchdown record with spring practice starting March 7.
