Brent Venables Provides Injury Update on Oklahoma LB Dasan McCullough

The Sooners' coach gave an update on the linebacker's availability during his weekly Coaches Show on Monday night.

Oklahoma’s defense got a boost on Monday night.

During his weekly Coaches Show, Brent Venables announced that cheetah linebacker Dasan McCullough would return to the lineup in the No. 16-ranked Sooners’ Big 12 opener against Cincinnati.

McCullough, who was one of the most highly sought after defensive talents in the transfer portal this offseason, has been limited for the Sooners.

He played in Oklahoma’s opener against Arkansas State, but left the contest with an ankle injury.

McCullough didn’t logged a snap in a game since.

The 6-foot-5 cheetah linebacker dressed for OU’s Week 2 matchup against SMU, but didn’t participate in pregame warmups. He also dressed against Tulsa, but didn’t play.

Monday night, true freshman Peyton Bowen said he had practiced as the starting cheetah, but the Oklahoma defensive staff has deployed a healthy rotation across the board through the first three weeks.

The Sooners will open Big 12 play on Saturday at 11 a.m. against the Cincinnati Bearcats.
