After a productive career at Oklahoma, talented defensive back Key Lawrence entered the transfer portal on Dec. 4.

It did not take long for the veteran safety to find a new home, as Lawrence committed to Mississippi on Thursday afternoon.

Hailing from Nashville, TN, Lawrence spent three seasons in Norman after playing at Tennessee as a freshman. In his OU career, the former 4-star recruit tallied 149 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, one sack, three interceptions, 12 pass breakups and six forced fumbles.

Despite having a productive career with the Sooners, Lawrence likely would have been edged out of the rotation next season by younger players like Robert Spears-Jennings and freshman phenom Peyton Bowen.

Lawrence's transfer to Mississippi means that the 6-foot-1, 206-pound safety will get the chance to play his former team next season, as the Rebels will take on Oklahoma on Oct. 26 in Oxford in the Sooners inaugural year in the SEC.

In 2023, Mississippi went 10-2, earning a Peach Bowl berth against Penn State.

Prior to his commitment, Lawrence visited Oxford shortly after entering the transfer portal.

Lawrence is the second former Sooner to find a home since the transfer portal window opened, with former OU offensive and defensive lineman Marcus Hicks announcing his commitment to South Dakota State on Monday.

So far, Reggie Grimes and Kelvin Gilliam Jr. are the only other defensive players from Oklahoma's 2023 roster to announced their entry into the transfer portal. In total, Brent Venables' squad has had 15 players enter the portal since the team's regular season finale.
