Former Oklahoma defensive back Jordan Mukes has found a new home.

The 4-star recruit from nearby Choctaw has landed at Abilene Christian, according to a tweet by the school’s official football Twitter account Wednesday.

The 6-foot-1, 205-pound Mukes arrived at OU in 2021 with much fanfare, and as a true freshman defensive back, he played in 11 games under Alex Grinch, including multiple snaps at nickleback, slot corner, field corner and even free safety. Most of Mukes’ work that year was on special teams, where he was a regular on kickoff coverage, totaling 50 snaps.

But in 2022, under Brent Venables and the Sooners’ new defensive staff, Mukes fell down the depth chart and could only get one total snap last season on the field goal block team, according to Pro Football Focus.

Abilene Christian competes in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) in the Western Athletic Conference. The Wildcats were 7-4 last season in their first season under Marlow, OK, native and long-time college football coach Keith Patterson.

ACU announced its full 2023 recruiting class on National Signing Day, a list that included six Power 5 transfers from schools like Alabama, Arkansas, Texas Tech and Washington.

At ACU, Mukes will be coached by former Sooner Julian Wilson, who played at OU from 2011-14 and now coaches Wildcats defensive backs.
