Oklahoma 2024 DB Target Discusses Recruitment

In this story:
NORMAN — Since the beginning of the Brent Venables era, Oklahoma's in-state recruiting has picked up drastically. The Oklahoma coaching staff has been scouring the state for talent, and has found plenty in the 2024 and 2025 classes.
One of the most skilled players the Sooners came across in their hunt for OK Preps standouts was Tulsa Union 2024 defensive back Devon Jordan. Jordan is a 6-foot, 170-pound cornerback, currently rated a 4-star prospect and a top-five player in Oklahoma according to Rivals.
Recently, the lockdown DB has garnered a lot of interest on the recruiting trail, earning offers from Alabama, Miami, TCU and Texas A&M, among others. Despite offers from brand name schools beginning to pour in, Jordan has stayed calm and collected.
"I don't have any top schools right now. I give them all the same love," Jordan told AllSooners. "I don't chase the logo, I'm just trying to grow a better relationship with all the coaches."
The Redhawks' standout announced on Twitter that he would be in Norman for the ChampU BBQ later in June, and told AllSooners that he will be in Stillwater visiting the Cowboys a week prior.

Jordan said he is looking forward to learning more about OU from the players currently on the team while at the ChampU BBQ.
"Growing a stronger bond with the coaches and getting to talk to players that's actually there," Jordan said when asked what aspect of his visit he is most anticipating. "They can tell me from their point of view how they did (the recruiting) process and how they're doing now."
Union competed at the Bixby (OK) team camp this week, practicing against some of the best teams in the state and a few solid opponents from out-of-state. Jordan had a stellar performance at Spartan Stadium, consistently blanketing his coverage assignment.
While on the field, Jordan was seen wearing a pair of OU gloves, which he showed off to the AllSooners crew upon request. In an interview after the first day of Bixby's team camp, the star corner described his relationship with the Oklahoma coaching staff.
"I have a strong relationship with Coach (Jay) Valai," Jordan said. "Coach Valai, he actually flew down in a private jet to come see me workout. ... When I went to the spring game, Coach Venables, he actually brought me down to the field. I was the only recruit that got to come to the middle of the field. ... It meant a lot to me."
The extra attention that the Sooners' staff showed Jordan indicates that the in-state star is a high priority for Venables and company. Keeping such a highly touted prospect in the state would be a major recruiting victory for OU, who would then have beaten out Alabama and others for a blue-chip defender.
Jordan said he considers his leadership one of his biggest assets, reiterating that he is focused on helping his team succeed this season. This sentiment is one that Venables and company seemingly covet, as multiple Sooners' targets have pointed to their ability to lead as a major piece of their skillset.
Union has produced key contributors to Oklahoma's defense, most recently veteran defensive lineman Jordan Kelley and former team captain and safety Pat Fields. If Jordan were to commit to the Sooners, he would continue the Union to Norman pipeline and add to what is already an impressive defensive back group for OU in the 2024 cycle.
