On Friday Morning, OU announced its 2024 non-conference opponents.

Next season, the Sooners will meet Houston on Sept. 7 and Maine (date TBA) in two of their first four games of the season. OU will also host Temple on Aug. 31 and Tulane on Sept. 14. All four contests will be held in Norman.

It's the fourth meeting in the series for OU and Houston, and the first for OU and Maine.

“We're excited to add Houston and Maine to our 2024 schedule,” OU athletic director Joe Castiglione said in a press release. “We always strive to schedule non-conference opponents in a manner that positions us for success and creates a fun environment for fans. It was always going to be a challenge to find two programs at this late stage that had open dates, but we're happy with the result of that process and are thrilled to give our fans seven home games in 2024. A big thank-you to Houston athletics director Chris Pezman and Maine AD Jude Killy for their cooperation, and, in Maine's case, its willingness to be flexible on a game date.”

Despite Houston making the jump to the Big 12, Oklahoma does not play the Cougars this season. Next year, however, Dana Holgorsen's team will travel to Norman to meet OU for the fifth time in program history.

The last meeting between the two schools came in 2019, when Jalen Hurts led the Sooners to a 49-31 victory at home. In 2016, the No. 15 Cougars notched their lone victory over then-No. 3 Oklahoma in a shocking 33-23 upset at NRG Stadium.

OU will return the home-and-home with Houston with a game at TDECU Stadium on Sept. 16, 2028.

According to SEC regulations, OU will play eight conference games and four non-conference games in 2024. It is also an SEC mandate for one of the non-conference opponents to be from the Pac-12, ACC, Big 10 or Big 12.

As conference realignment continues to take the college football world by storm, Oklahoma may have a new gamut of options to choose from in the future.

On June 14, the Sooners learned their SEC opponents for 2024.

OU will meet Alabama, Tennessee and South Carolina at home and will face Auburn, Mississippi, Missouri and LSU on the road. As always, Oklahoma and Texas will meet at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas.

This schedule breakdown includes seven home games for the Sooners in 2024, which will be helpful as the team enters its first season in the SEC.

The 2024 season will mark only the seventh time in school history that OU has played seven home games (1991, 2001, 2003, 2007, 2018 and 2021). Six of these seasons have come in the last 23 years, including 2021, when Oklahoma was scheduled to play six home games but Hurricane Ida forced Tulane to make the trek to Norman rather than playing in Louisiana, where the contest was originally set to be played.

With only four true road games next season, the Sooners' schedule should set the team up nicely for a smoother transition into the conference.
