On Wednesday, coveted 5-star defensive lineman David Stone finally signed with Oklahoma. 

Rated a 5-star recruit and the No. 7 overall player in the nation, Stone will be one of the most highly touted interior defensive lineman to come through Norman in quite some time. Originally hailing from Del City, OK, winning Stone's recruitment was huge for the Sooners, especially as Brent Venables leads his team into the SEC.

"David’s tremendously talented," OU head coach Brent Venables said at his press conference on Wednesday. "He’s a leader of young men… Guys will follow him… Really excited about him."

Despite late pushes from schools like Miami and Alabama, OU was able to hand on and land a commitment from Stone back in August. Since then, the 6-foot-4, 280-pound defensive lineman has been vocal on social media about his loyalty to the Sooners.

With Stone's blend of size and athleticism he posses impressive power and surprising speed and quickness. A versatile defender, Stone took reps on the edge and on the interior during his time at IMG Academy. 

Despite the returning depth along Oklahoma's defensive line, Stone is physically talented enough to earn reps in Todd Bates and Miguel Chavis' rotation from year one in Norman.

Growing up, Stone was close friends with fellow 2024 OU signee Mykel Patterson-McDonald, as the two met playing youth football in the Oklahoma City metro.

The Sooners signed 13 prospects by 8:30 a.m. on the morning of Early Signing Day and are expecting to bring in 27 scholarship players through high school recruiting in addition to a few talented high school walk-ons and experienced more experienced veterans through the transfer portal.
