Oklahoma has college football’s full attention.

One day after Dillon Gabriel marched the Sooners down the field to top Texas 34-30, Brent Venables’ program is shooting up the polls.

OU was ranked No. 5 in the country in the most recent AP Poll that dropped on Sunday, up seven spots from being slotted at 12th last week.

The Longhorns slid back to No. 9, falling off the top three perch Steve Sarkisian has his squad sitting upon last week.

Oklahoma didn’t raise as high in the USA Today Coaches Poll, as OU checked in at No. 7 and Texas fell to 11th.

After successfully turning around last year’s 49-0 defeat in the Cotton Bowl, Venables will now have a week to help his team decompress.

The Sooners are off next weekend, and will return to action to put their 6-0 record on the line against the reeling UCF Knights.

Gus Malzahn’s Big 12 newcomers have lost three straight to open conference play after getting torched 51-22 at the hands of the Kansas Jayhawks on Saturday.
