Fresh off a scrimmage during the weekend, the Sooners returned to practice on Monday. The program opened up the first 40 minutes of practice to local media members to observe the proceedings.

AllSooners.com had three staff members — John Hoover, Ryan Chapman and Tim Willert — on hand to observe practice.

NORMAN — A light drizzle didn’t do much to slow down the Sooners who entered another week of fall camp on Monday.

Oklahoma pressed on at the Rugby Fields south of Gaylord Family - Oklahoma Memorial Stadium before campus is once again bustling with students.

Here were observations from Monday’s practice:

  • Running back Daylan Smothers was present and participating at practice, as was fellow running back Gavin Sawchuk.
  • During individual drills, running backs coach DeMarco Murray was pleased with the work of his position group, not needing to stop and have guys run back through reps very often.
  • Defensive end R Mason Thomas was no longer sporting a protective boot, and he was working through mobility exercises with a member of OU’s training staff. Thomas was attentively watching the defensive ends participating in individual drills, trying to work back into full contact.
  • Dillon Gabriel and Jackson Arnold appeared unbothered by the light rain, working through their passing drills as they normally do to start off practice.
  • Rondell Bothroyd and PJ Adebawore both got praise from defensive ends coach Miguel Chavis for hand placement on various individual drills.
