SEC Announces Oklahoma's Full 2024 Football Schedule

The Sooners already knew all their league opponents and where those games will be played, but learned the rest of the schedule, including Oct. 12 against Texas.

The future has arrived.

Oklahoma received its marching orders Wednesday for the 2024 college football season — the Sooners’ first as a member of the Southeastern Conference.

OU already knew its opponents and where those games would be played. The Sooners also knew two of next year’s home dates — Sept. 21 against Tennessee and Josh Heupel, and Nov. 23 against Alabama and Nick Saban.

But now OU fans can begin planning trips and home Saturdays in earnest.

The Sooners play their first-ever SEC game against the Volunteers in Week 4. Heupel's return to OU will be bittersweet, as he led the Sooners to the 2000 national championship but was also fired as offensive coordinator following the 2014 season.

OU then visits Auburn on Sept. 28 for its first SEC road game. The Tigers went 6-6 overall this year and 3-5 in SEC play.

The Sooners are off on Oct. 5, then meet rival Texas in the Cotton Bowl in Dallas on Oct. 12. The Longhorns are 12-1 this season with a 34-30 loss to the Sooners.

OU's next two games are home against South Carolina (5-7, 3-5) and former Sooners assistant Shane Beamer on Oct. 19 and at Ole Miss (10-2, 6-2) on Oct. 26.

November's slate opens on Nov. 2 and features the Sooners stepping out of conference play with a home game against FCS opponent Maine.

OU is at old Big Eight/Big 12 foe Missouri (10-2, 6-2) on Nov. 9, then gets its second open date on Nov. 16.

Things then get especially tough for Brent Venables and company to wrap up Venables' third season in Norman. The Sooners and Crimson Tide (12-1, 8-0) tangle in Norman on Nov. 23, and then OU closes the regular season with a visit to LSU (9-3, 6-2) on Nov. 30.

The Sooners, who own a 127-93-11 (.574) combined record against its eight 2024 SEC foes, have never played at Auburn, at Ole Miss or at LSU.

In Alabama and Texas, Oklahoma next season plays half of this year's College Football Playoff field. (OU then plays a home-and-home non-conference series against a third 2023 playoff team in Michigan; the 2025 game is in Norman while the 2026 clash is in Ann Arbor.)

After membership in the Big 12 Conference since 1996, Oklahoma and Texas announced in July 2021 they would join the SEC in 2025. In February, that timetable was moved up to 2024.

SEC commissioner Greg Sankey previously announced the league would maintain an eight-game conference schedule for 2024, but with the growth to 16 teams, next year will be the SEC's first since 1991 without divisional play (the SEC added South Carolina and Arkansas to expand to 12 in 1992, then added Missouri and Texas A&M in 2012).

It's a landmark season beyond the SEC, as well, as the College Football Playoff expands from four teams to 12 next year.

The Sooners lead all of college football with 50 conference championships, but haven't won a Big 12 title since 2020 — their longest stretch without a title since 1998. This year's team finished 10-2 and tied for second in the standings but missed out on a berth in the Big 12 title game after losing the head-to-head tiebreaker at Oklahoma State.

The No. 12-ranked Sooners play their final game as a member of the Big 12 against No. 14 Arizona on Dec. 28 in the Alamo Bowl in San Antonio.
