Sooners in the NFL: CeeDee Lamb Breaks Dallas Records as Historic Season Continues

The Oklahoma product is in the midst of the greatest receiving season of all time in Dallas.

It was another Saturday at the office for Dallas star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb

The former Oklahoma playmaker added another chapter to his record-breaking season and etched his name in the franchise’s record books on Saturday, and did it in a major way.

On the night, Lamb finished with a career-high in receptions and yards, recording 13 catches for 227 receiving yards and a touchdown. His highlight play was a 92-yard touchdown in the first quarter where Dak Prescott evaded pressure and found Lamb wide open after burning the defensive back. His improvisation when the play breaks down and route-running skills have been top-tier all season long.

Funny enough, his 227-yard performance was enough to receive a quick drug test from NFL headquarters.

Lamb had a terrific game in the Cowboys' 20-19 victory over Detroit at AT&T Stadium, but the biggest storyline of the night was the history he achieved. He passed NFL legend Michael Irvin in both receptions (122) and yards during a season, a record that stood since 1995.

The full Week 17 slate has yet to kickoff, but as of Sunday morning, Lamb now leads the NFL in receiving yards. On the season, he has amassed 1,671 yards and 10 receiving touchdowns. The next highest total in the Cowboys' receiving group is tight end Jake Ferguson, who has 692 yards and five touchdowns. It just goes to show how dominant Lamb has been and how important he is to the Dallas offense.

The record-breaking night wasn’t the only piece of history Lamb wrote this season. Earlier this year, he became the first player in NFL history to record at least 10 receptions and 150 receiving yards in three consecutive games.

Heading into this season, Lamb was set to prove his status as a No. 1 wide receiver in the NFL, and the Cowboys were willing to let him prove it. He's done all of that and more. Lamb has given Prescott a premier pass catcher and is a game away from officially turning in the greatest season by a Cowboys wide receiver in the history of the franchise.

Watching him make plays for three seasons in Norman, Oklahoma fans knew how special he was. On draft night, when two wide receivers were taken ahead of him, it seemed almost silly to some. Now, in his fourth season in the NFL, Lamb has turned into a top-three pass catcher in the NFL and is breaking records for one of the most storied franchises in the sport.
