Sunday Offering: Oklahoma Picks Up Commitment, Battling for Three More

In this story:
Oklahoma continues to build momentum on the recruiting trail.
With 27 commitments in the 2024 class and five pledges in the 2025 class heading into the weekend, the Sooners have had a good streak on the recruiting trail.
Over the past week, OU continued this impressive stretch, gaining one commitment while being in contention for two more.
Weekend pledge
During the Sooners' against the Kansas Jayhawks on Saturday, Brent Venables and company received their 28 commitment in the 2024 recruiting class.
Reggie Powers III, a 4-star defensive back from Centerville High School (OH), announced his pledge to Oklahoma over the weekend.

Formerly a Michigan State commit, Powers III backed off of his pledge in September after the school informed former head coach Mel Tucker that he would be fired. In October, Powers III visited Norman to see OU take down UCF 31-29.

One week after his visit, Powers III committed to the Sooners.
Listed at 6-foot-1 and 200 pounds, the hard-hitting defensive back is rated the No. 154 player and No. 11 safety in the nation, according to 247Sports. Powers III joins Mykel Patterson-McDonald, Eli Bowen, Devon Jordan, Jeremiah Newcombe and Jaydan Hardy in Oklahoma's 2024 recruiting class.
The 4-star DB chose OU over Ohio State, Cincinnati, UCLA and others.
Commitment dates
The day before the Sooners' took on the Jayhawks, an in-state recruiting target revealed his commitment date.
Alexander Shieldnight, a 3-star edge rusher from Wagoner High School (OK), will announce his pledge prior to the Bulldogs regular season finale against Broken Bow (OK) on Nov. 10 at Wagoner's football stadium.
Thank you Lord for allowing me to play this game🙏I am extremely blessed for the opportunity’s and relationships I have been given and have grown into over these past three years.

‼️I will be announcing my college decision on November 10th, at WL Odem Football Stadium, Wagoner‼️ pic.twitter.com/ZiXMZlOLMI
Listed at 6-foot-3 and 220 pounds, Shieldnight is one of the top 21 edge rushers in the nation and one of the top 10 players in Oklahoma in the 2025 class according to Rivals.
Not only would landing an in-state recruit continue Venables' local recruiting dominance, but it would also be a huge boost for OU in the upcoming cycle. If he does commit to OU, Shieldnight would join Lee's Summit North (MO) defensive lineman Ka'Mori Moore as the only defensive players in the Sooners' 2025 class.
With 3-star Carl Albert (OK) linebacker Marcus James set to announce his commitment on Nov. 2, Oklahoma could pick up two local, 2025 defensive prospects in the span of eight days.
Battling for Brix
The Sooners are still looking to round out their 2024 recruiting class with one of the top offensive lineman in the nation, 4-star Logan-Magnolia (IA) product Grant Brix.
Brix is a 6-foot-6, 290-pound interior lineman from Logan, IA, a town with just under 1,400 residents. The OU target is rated the No. 57 player and No. 2 interior offensive lineman in the country, according to On3.
While Brix holds offers from schools like Alabama, Penn State, Iowa, Oregon and many others, it seems that the talented trench player is deciding between Nebraska and Oklahoma.
Brix has reportedly built great relationships with the OU coaching staff, but also values being close to home. Norman is around 500 miles from Logan while Lincoln, NE, is less than 90 miles from Brix's hometown.
Still, the Sooners seem to be making a strong push for the Iowa native. While some believe that Oklahoma is in the driver's seat for Brix, Nebraska is doing everything they can to land a commitment from the highly coveted offensive lineman.

If OU is able to beat out the Cornhuskers for Brix, he would be one of the highest-rated recruits Bill Bedenbaugh has managed to secure a commitment from during his time in Norman.
