Ole Miss Baseball Preview: Rebels Host Arkansas State Red Wolves in Midweek Action

The Arkansas State Red Wolves come to Swayze Field on Wednesday to take on the Ole Miss Rebels in a familiar midweek matchup.

The Ole Miss Rebels want to avenge a tough opening weekend split with the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors this week as they play host to the Arkansas State Red Wolves on Wednesday afternoon.

With opening day and a total of 8,000 miles behind them, the Rebels return to the friendly confines of Swayze Field with a sour taste in their mouths. The weekend started with a bang, winning the series' first two games, but the rest of the slate was pretty ugly.

The Rebels have a chance to turn the ship back in the right direction, but it won't be without the Red Wolves' best shot. Arkansas State is hot and coming off a sweep of Omaha, a trend that is hard to come by in college baseball.

Another interesting point of this game is one of the additions the Rebels made via the transfer portal, Kyler Carmack. Carmack is a RHP from Cabot, Ark., and played his freshman year at Arkansas State where he posted a 3.23 ERA, which was tops on the team and second in the Sun Belt.

Carmack saw limited action against Hawaii in the series finale where he went two-thirds of an inning. He struggled with his command, walking four and giving up three earned runs. Could he be in line to get some innings on Wednesday against his former squad?

Arkansas State plays host to Arkansas Pine-Bluff on Tuesday and then hits the road for Oxford, and while Ole Miss only has one midweek game this week, it needs to focus on playing clean baseball. If the Rebels can lessen their error woes from last weekend, they can take the pressure off the pitchers and the bats.

First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m. CT from Swayze Field as the Rebs look to begin the home campaign with a win. The starting pitchers for this matchup have yet to be announced.
