Ole Miss Offense Surges in Series-Clinching, Run-Rule Win Over Maryland

In this story:
OXFORD, Miss. — The home run ball was in plentiful supply on Sunday as the No. 4 Ole Miss Rebels took the game and series over the No. 13 Maryland Terrapins 18-8 in seven innings at Swayze Field.
In total, 10 home runs were hit by both teams, including three that carried Ole Miss to a seven-spot in the third inning entirely on the long ball. The Rebel pitchers again struggled to consistently get outs, leading to usage of three arms on the day. Walks, however, were not as large a problem as on Saturday, as the Rebels allowed six free passes.
Ole Miss got the scoring started in the first inning with a leadoff solo shot from Jacob Gonzalez, and Calvin Harris led the Rebels in RBIs with eight, including a walk-off, run-rule grand slam in the seventh. The two teams combined for 24 hits on Saturday, and 14 of those came from the Rebels alone. Ole Miss scored multiple runs in three of Saturday’s seven innings in the midst of the hit parade.
On the mound, the game was started by lefty Xavier Rivas who threw 3.2 innings of six-run ball, giving way to Mitch Murrell in the fourth inning. Brayden Jones was the final pitcher to toe the rubber for Ole Miss.
With the win, Ole Miss improves to 6-1 on the season and will host a midweek series against the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs on Tuesday and Wednesday before participating in the Cambria College Classic next weekend, opening play against the same Terrapins.
First pitch on Tuesday between the Rebels and Bulldogs is set for 4 p.m. CT on SEC Network+.
