Ole Miss Baseball vs. Iowa: Three Storylines To Watch

The Ole Miss Rebels are set to take on their toughest competition yet this weekend in the Iowa Hawkeyes.

The Ole Miss Rebels look to stay locked in on the mound and at the plate this weekend as the Iowa Hawkeyes come to Swayze Field for a weekend series.

Ole Miss has won four straight games, but Iowa will likely present its stiffest competition to this point of the young season. Here are three things to watch in this Big Ten vs. SEC showdown.

Ole Miss will debut these new cream uniforms on Friday night against Iowa.

Can the Rebs Get to the Bullpen?

The Iowa Hawkeyes will trot out three legit starters this weekend, so the question is can Rebel hitters weather the storm early?

If they can work counts and take walks, they can get into an Iowa bullpen prone to blowing leads. Just last week, Iowa gave up three runs in the 7th inning to Auburn, and the Tigers ended up winning the ballgame 7-5. If the Rebels can get in and exploit this weak bullpen, it could be a shot of confidence in the arm of this team.

Can Ole Miss Handle the Heat?

Iowa will go with flame-throwing righty , Brady Brecht today on the bump. With his triple-digit fastball looming, can Rebel hitters get their front foot down and be on time? That will be the key to early offensive success on Friday night.

Connor Spencer

If the game is on the line late, will Coach Bianco turn to Connor Spencer?

Spencer has only seen two innings of work, but I could see him getting the rock if the game is close. The question is will he get the eighth and ninth or just the ninth?
