Ole Miss Finds a Way to Win Midweek Matchup vs. ULM: Three Takeaways

The Ole Miss Rebels avoided a potential trap game on Tuesday to extend their winning streak to seven games.

The Ole Miss Rebels were back on the road after the long homestand and were looking to stay hot against the Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks on Tuesday.

This marked a very tight game throughout as the Rebels clawed back to win 5-3. Here are three takeaways from the Tuesday night game against ULM.

Treyson Hughes

Treyson Hughes Takeover

Treyson Hughes had his best game of the season thus far, flashing in all three aspects. At the plate, Hughes went 2-for-5 with two singles and a run scored, and he also swiped a base.

Hughes also flashed turning a sliding catch into a crow hop to nail a runner at third trying to advance, putting his arm talent and athleticism on display to gun down the runner. It's a great sign to see him find a spark before conference play starts.

No Free Passes

The Ole Miss bullpen gave up zero walks through three scoreless innings of work. Brayden Jones was first in relief of Riley Maddox, who settled down nicely after a couple of early runs from the Warhawks.

Jones went an inning, striking out two and forcing a ground ball. Ryne Rodriguez also saw his first action since the Hawaii series, handling the left-on-left matchup perfectly in the bottom of the eighth.

Next, Mason Nichols did Mason Nichols things, preserving his zero ERA and also securing the win. Connor Spencer came in for the ninth and closed the door on the potential comeback with two strikeouts, marking his third save of the season.

The bullpen continues to be reliable in tight situations as every pitcher thrown out on the mound on Tuesday saw some high-leverage situations—a great sign of continued confidence out of the pen.

Seven In A Row

The Rebels look to be catching fire at the right time, collecting their seventh win in a row and 11th out of the last 12 on Tuesday. ULM is a competitive ballclub, and playing them on the road the game before SEC play starts could've been a huge letdown spot.

The Rebels came ready to play and look to keep riding this streak as the South Carolina Gamecocks come to Oxford this weekend
