Ole Miss RB Zach Evans To Miss Drills At NFL Scouting Combine

The Rebels running back will not workout this week at Lucas Oil Stadium

As players prepare to make their marks at the 2023 NFL Scouting Combine, one Ole Miss prospect must wait until his pro day in Oxford.

Rebels running back Zach Evans will not participate in drills at Lucas Oil Stadium during the week-long scouting event. Evans is slated to meet with teams and conduct formal interviews, but will not work out for scouts until Ole Miss' Pro Day on March 23.

Evans was one of five Rebels invited to the combine this season, joining offensive lineman Nick Broeker, defensive lineman Tavius Robinson and receivers Malik Heath and Jonathan Mingo. The four remaining Ole Miss players are all expected to participate in drills throughout the week.

A two-year starter at TCU, Evans transferred to The Grove last offseason following the firing of Gary Patterson in Fort Worth. Expecting to be the focal point of Lane Kiffin's offense, Evans split first-team reps with freshman Quinshon Judkins, helping the Rebels lead the SEC in rushing yards (256.6 yards per game).

Evans rushed for 936 yards and nine touchdowns on 144 carries. Judkins, the SEC's leading rusher, broke Ole Miss' single-season rushing record with 1,567 yards to go along with 16 scores. Judkins also led the SEC in rushing touchdowns and averaged 5.7 yards per attempt.

A fringe Day 2 prospect, Evans could slip into early Day 3 conversations following the combine. Expected to be in play for a mid-round pick, Evans often was linked with other prospects, including Texas A&M's Devon Achane, Pitt's Israel Abanikanda and UCLA's Zach Charbonnet as a third-round option.

Mingo could be one of the biggest risers in the draft process with a strong outing on Saturday during workouts. A two-year starter, Mingo posted career-highs in receptions (51), receiving yards (861), touchdowns (5) and yards per reception (16.9) en route to an 8-4 regular season finish.

Mingo is currently viewed as a late Day 2/Early Day 3 prospect entering combine week.
