Oregon Ducks defensive lineman Sir Mells has entered the transfer portal. He announced his decision on Thursday.

"Oregon will always have a special place in my heart," Mells wrote on social media. "My time in Eugene has been great memories and love! With that being said, with 4 years of eligibility left I will be entering my name into the transfer portal."

During the 2022 season Mells appeared in one game for the Ducks, playing four snaps and recording a pass breakup against Eastern Washington. He utilized a redshirt as a true freshman.

The path to playing time would have been difficult for the 2023 season as the Ducks have one of their defensive line groups in recent memory. Jordan Burch, Popo Aumavae, Brandon Dorlus and Casey Rogers are just some of the headliners.

Mells signed with the Ducks as a three-star (0.8596 per 247Sports Composite) recruit from Henderson (Nev.) Liberty High School in the 2022 recruiting class. The 6-foot-3, 315-pound defensive lineman was one of two players Oregon signed from Liberty in 2022 along with edge rusher Anthony Jones, who entered the transfer portal on Wednesday.

Both teammates were also former Washington commits before committing to Oregon.

Five Oregon players have now entered the transfer portal this week including cornerback Darren Barkins, cornerback Avante Dickerson and linebacker Harrison Taggart.
