In this story:

Oregon is working to build a top-flight defense and a key part of that is bringing in defensive backs that can lock down opponents' top wide receivers. Demetrice Martin was named the Pac-12 Recruiter of the Year in 2023 and hopes he can one-up himself this cycle.

On Thursday, 2024 Cleveland (OH) Glenville cornerback Bryce West placed Oregon in his top seven schools, whittling down his 34 reported scholarship offers.

The other schools in the mix for the elite defensive back include Ohio State, USC, Alabama, Texas A&M, Michigan and Georgia.

West is listed at 5'11", 177 pounds and is rated a four-star (0.9744) recruit by the 247Sports Composite. The same system ranks him the No. 43 player nationally, the No. 4 cornerback and the No. 1 player in the state of Ohio.

He also participated in track this spring, running a 6.81 in the 60 meters and 21.76 in the 200 meters. He got out on the recruiting trail for some trips this spring, visiting Oregon along with Ohio State and USC. West will take an official visit to Michigan this weekend.

The Under Armour All-American is one of the Ducks' top cornerback targets in 2024 along with Aaron Scott Jr., Chris Johnson II, Kobe Black and Selman Bridges.

Demetrice Martin landed a commitment from cornerback Ify Obidegwu in May and Scott is taking an official visit with the Ducks this weekend.
