Oregon Football kicks off their 2023 season on Saturday afternoon against Portland State, but there were plenty of future Ducks in action on Friday.

Dylan Williams is one of those future Ducks. He was a top Oregon target from the moment he de-committed from USC last fall.

He finally announced his verbal pledge to the Ducks last month in a big recruiting win for Dan Lanning and company over the Michigan State Spartans.

On Friday he helped lead Long Beach Poly to a 32-28 statement win over Southern California power Mission Viejo.

"It was an amazing win for our program for sure," he told Ducks Digest after the game. "We really needed this coming after a big loss. But it's never really been about who we play, it's just us coming to play to the standard."

Williams is still getting up to speed this season after returning from a spring injury.

"I feel like I came off to a slow start, but all that matters is that I get my team to a state championship," the Oregon linebacker commit said of the young season. "It's not about the personal aspect of it."

One of Dan Lanning's prized commits this cycle plans on getting back out to Eugene for another visit next month.

"The plan is right now to be getting up for the Colorado game."

Although he announced his commitment to Oregon this summer, that hasn't stopped other schools from actively recruiting him and he says he's still hearing from a couple programs.

"A few schools like Michigan State, Miami and stuff."

Fortunately for Oregon fans it sounds like he couldn't be more solid in his commitment.

"I'm 100% a Duck. I'm locked in," Williams said. "I'll be graduating early and enrolling on January 8. I'm a Duck man. Nobody gotta worry, I'm a Duck."

With Long Beach Poly moving to 2-1 on Friday, the 6-foot-3, 215-pound linebacker isn't getting complacent and wants to keep leveling up his game.

"I'm just trying to improve and get better," he said. "I feel like I'm coming off to a slow start and I just need to pick it up. But all that matters is that my team's getting better and better day by day."

Next up for Williams and the Long Beach Poly Jackrabbits is a rivalry showdown next week against fellow Oregon commit Dakoda Fields and the Serra Cavaliers.

Williams says the game plan doesn't change with another big game looming.

"Same thing. Just play to our standard. It's never about who we play but how we play."
