Oregon Has One of Nation's Best Quarterback Hauls in 2024 Recruiting Class

There's plenty of quarterback talent heading to Eugene in the near future.

Everyone knows that quarterback is the most important position in college football.

That's why coaching staffs across the country place a premium on recruiting talented arms to lead their offenses of the future.

Fortunately for Oregon, offensive coordinator Will Stein has helped the Ducks reel in one of the nations best hauls at the position in the 2024 class.

Rivals ranks Oregon's quarterback class No. 2 in the country, trailing only the Georgia Bulldogs.

The Ducks have a talented duo of passers in the fold for 2024.

Phoenix (Ariz.) Sunnyslope quarterback Luke Moga was the first to hop in the boat, announcing his verbal commitment to the Ducks in late April during the weekend of the spring game.

But one quarterback wasn't enough for Oregon, as they identified and heavily recruited Baltimore (Md.) St. Frances Academy quarterback Michael Van Buren as well. His pledge took a bit longer, as the staff had to overcome the Penn State Nittany Lions, who at one point were thought to hold a commanding lead for his commitment.

Van Buren committed to the Ducks in May to help pave the way for a strong run of commitments for Dan Lanning in the summer.

Moga will start his senior campaign against Glendale (Ariz.) Cactus High next week.

Meanwhile, Van Buren will be under the national spotlight, as the preseason No. 6 St. Frances Academy Panthers will go to battle against the No. 10 Buford Wolves on the road in the Peach State on Friday night.

Torres' Take

I really like Oregon's quarterback haul here. Van Buren is likely the main reason the Ducks are viewed so favorably here.

He quickly became a national recruit playing at a national powerhouse program that faces top schools around the country every season. That said, he is a bit undersized at 5'11", 185 pounds, but his body of work speaks for itself.

As for Moga, he's a prospect I'm very intrigued by. I hit the road this spring to see him myself in Arizona and it was clear pretty quickly that he has a high ceiling.

However, he's relatively new to the position since he just played his first season as the full-time starting quarterback last year at Sunnyslope. At 6'2", 205 pounds, he's a great athlete with almost unheard of speed for a quarterback--clocking a 10.49 in the 100 meters this past spring as a sprinter.

I love his ability to keep plays alive and improvise. I also think he has some unique arm talent throwing on the run and off-platform. With his lack of experience comes plenty of room to grow mechanically, but I think he's made of the right stuff and it's not hard to see why Will Stein coveted his commitment.
