Oregon could be closing in on a big commitment in the 2024 recruiting class.

Ahead of their biggest recruiting weekend of the year, the Ducks are surging for Baltimore (Md.) St. Frances Academy quarterback Michael Van Buren, a four-star (0.9411 per 247Sports Composite) Under Armour All-American recruit in the 2024 recruiting class.

He was recently on campus this for an unofficial visit and will return this weekend for the Ducks' spring game.

247Sports Director of Recruiting Steve Wiltfong and national recruiting analyst Brian Dohn both logged predictions in favor of the Ducks on Tuesday.

This is significant news for a number of reasons, starting off with the fact that Van Buren was recently on campus and listed Oregon in his top three schools along with Penn State and Maryland. James Franklin and the Nittany Lions had long been viewed as the favorite, but it looks like Will Stein and the Ducks have emerged as new front runners. Van Buren has set a commitment date for July 8, but it remains to be seen if there's some flexibility with his timing.

The Ducks have been playing the long game with the Baltimore passer, recruiting him before both Dan Lanning and Will Stein were on staff. Continued effort on the recruiting trail appears to be paying off not only with Van Buren but also with another talented passer in the 2024 class.

Oregon is also the favorite for Phoenix (Ariz.) Sunnyslope quarterback Luke Moga, who was just on campus in Eugene last weekend and will return for a visit during the spring game. He was set to announce his college commitment on Friday April 28 but decided to delay his decision following his most recent trip. Steve Wiltfong has also predicted Moga to Oregon, making his pick on April 11.

The Ducks are also leading for both Van Buren and Moga on the On3 recruiting prediction machine.

Oregon boasts the No. 14 ranked recruiting class nationally in 2024 according to 247Sports and are poised to climb those rankings in a hurry with a slew of top prospects visiting this week.

Will Stein has already gotten off to a hot start as a recruiter at Oregon, flipping 2023 quarterback Austin Novosad from Baylor right after getting hired.
