The Oregon Ducks could be closing in on a commitment in the 2024 class.

On Thursday San Antonio (Tex.) Veterans Memorial running back James Peoples placed Oregon in his final six schools.

He announced his new group on social media, which also included Alabama, Ohio State, Oklahoma, TCU, Texas.

Peoples stands at 5'11" and weighs 196 pounds. He's rated a four-star (0.9587 per 247Sports Composite) recruit and is ranked the No. 76 prospect nationally, the No. 6 running back and the No. 11 prospect in Texas.

Oregon offered Peoples back in November and it looks like they still have a shot in his recruitment after landing in his final schools. Peoples took visits to Oklahoma and Texas in January and will likely take official visits to all but one school in his new list.

The Texas product recently committed to play in the 2024 Adidas All-American Bowl, which only solidifies his standing as one of the best players in the country.

Oregon doesn't have a running back commit in their 2024 recruiting class, but Peoples is one of a handful of backs that Carlos Locklyn is recruiting this cycle including Nate Frazier (CA), Cameron Jones (CA), Jason Brown Jr. (WA), De'Juan Riggs (Washington D.C.) and Taylor Tatum (TX) among others.

The Ducks went on a tear in Texas during the 2023 recruiting cycle, signing six prospects from the state including wide receiver Ashton Cozart (Marcus High School), quarterback Austin Novosad (Dripping Springs) and safety Tyler Turner (Brennan High School).

Not only did the Ducks sign Turner out of the San Antonio area, but they also recently hired new offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Will Stein from UTSA, which could help give Oregon a better shot in this recruitment.

Whatever ultimately happens in Peoples' recruitment, the next step for Carlos Locklyn and the rest of the Oregon staff will be getting him on campus for a visit to solidify their standing and continue building a strong relationship.

The Ducks signed two running backs in 2023 in Dante Dowdell (Picayune, MS) and Jayden Limar (Lake Stevens, WA), both of which are enrolled and on campus.
