Pitt PG Nelly Cummings Will Play Through Ankle Injury vs Boston College

The Pitt Panthers' starting point guard will play, but won't be at 100%.

PITTSBURGH -- Injuries are a fact of life for everyone in college basketball at this point in the season and the Pitt Panthers are no different. Even though they have been able to avoid the kind of injuries that kept players out of games intermittently this season, the Panthers' starting point guard will be dealing with some pain when he takes on Boston College this week.

Nelly Cummings, who has started every game for the Panthers this season and is averaging the eighth-most assists in the ACC, is dealing with an ankle injury suffered in practice last week. Capel said Cummings has played with the injury for the last two games. He sat the final 12:30 of the team's last game against Florida State and received treatment over the weekend for his ailment. Pitt head coach Jeff Capel expects him to play this week against Boston College, but not at 100%.

This is just what Capel expects at this time of year. He said he's doing his best to manage the injury and keep his players as healthy as possible, but he can only do so much given the wear and tear on his players' bodies.

"He certainly won't be 100%," Capel said. "Look, this time of the year everybody is banged up, everybody."
