Pitt Projected As Coastal Runner-up in ACC Football Poll

The Pitt Panthers were picked to finish second in the Coastal Division and recieved the fifth most votes to win the overall title.

PITTSBURGH -- The ACC released its 2022 Preseason Football Poll on Tuesday afternoon and the 164 voting media members expect a return to somewhat normal this season, after the Pitt Panthers became the first team from north of Clemson, South Carolina to win an ACC football title since 2010. 

Clemson was picked to return to its perch atop the ACC. The Tigers garnered 103 of 164 possible votes for the overall champion. NC State is a distant second with 38 votes. Miami came in third with eight, with Wake Forest behind in fourth having four votes and Pitt trailing in fifth with three. They are tied with Virginia. 

Florida State, North Carolina and Boston College were the remaining three schools to get at least one championship vote. 

By a wide margin, Miami was chosen as the favorite to win the Coastal Division this season. They collected 98 first-place votes compared to 38 for Pitt, 18 for North Carolina, six for Virginia, three for Virginia Tech and one for Georgia Tech. 

On the Atlantic side, Clemson is a heavy favorite. Just two teams surpassed double-digit first-place votes - the Tigers (111) and NC State (44).
