Pitt OG Shut Down For Spring Practices

The Pitt Panthers will have to wait until fall camp to get a probable starting guard back.

PITTSBURGH -- The Pitt Panthers will go through spring practices without the likely favorite to start at guard available to go through drills. 

Super senior guard Ryan Jacoby, who was on track to start for the Panthers last season before suffering a season-ending knee injury in the first week of training camp, will not practice before the start of fall camp, Pitt head coach Pat Narduzzi revealed this week. 

Narduzzi had said during the first week of spring drills that Jacoby was recovering well and that he expected the Panthers to get him back on the field “soon.” Instead, his timeline has been pushed back. Narduzzi said they will reevaluate him this summer and expect him to be recovered for the 2024 season. Jacoby has dressed for practices this spring but not been a full participant. 

Jacoby was a blue-chip prospect coming out of high school in 2019 and played his first two seasons at Ohio State before transferring to Pitt in 2021. He saw the field in the final three games of that season as a reserve offensive lineman and started in the Peach Bowl against Michigan State. 

He returned in 2022 and saw action in all 13 games - five of which came in the form of starts as a tight end. Jacoby played primarily as a guard last season, but was being worked out as a tackle this year.
