PITTSBURGH -- The Pitt Panthers are on the hunt for a player that can fill the void left behind when superstar forward Blake Hinson and they may have found one that's interested in joining the program.

Pitt was one of the first schools to reach out to East Carolina transfer Brandon Johnson. Now Johnson has the Panthers in his top six alongside Louisville, Miami, Virginia Tech, Mississippi State and NC State, according to On3's Joe Tipton.

Johnson, a 6'8 and 222-pound redshirt junior from Raleigh, North Carolina, has blossomed over the past two seasons after transferring in from Brunswick Community College. averaged 14 points, 8.6 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.7 steals per game last season while appearing in 31 games - all starts. He shot 36.5% from 3-point range, a vast improvement from the 33.3% mark he posted the season prior.

Hinson and fellow senior K.J. Marshall have graduated and Federiko Federiko and William Jeffress opted to transfer this offseason. With two more true freshmen slated to arrive this summer, the Panthers currently have three open scholarships to play around with.
