PITTSBURGH -- The Pitt Panthers are hoping to bring Pittsburgh native Adou Thiero out of the transfer portal and back to his hometown but they're facing stiff competition to land the coveted former local prospect.

The Panthers are facing challenges from Miami, Arizona, Oregon, Gonzaga, Ohio State, Indiana, Xavier, NC State, Arkansas, Texas A&M, Creighton, Georgia, Penn State, Mizzou, DePaul, Georgetown, Ole Miss and Duquesne, amongst others, to land Thiero's commitment but they will have an update on where they stand soo, according to ESPN's Jeff Borzello. He says Thiero plans on cutting this list of suitors down next week after considering his offers.

Thiero was rated as high as a four-star prospect by 247Sports coming out of high school. On3 and Rivals had him pegged as a three-star prospect. 247 ranked him as the No. 3 player in Pennsylvania, the No. 18 combo guard and No. 132 player overall in his class.

As a freshman at Kentucky, Theiro averaged 9.5 minutes, 2.3 points and 1.9 rebounds per game over 20 appearances. He took a step forward in his sophomore season, appearing in 25 games, starting 19 and averaging 7.2 points, 5 rebounds 1.1 assists and 1.1 blocks per game while incresing his field goal percentage by 15 points and free throw percentage by 11 points.

Thiero is in the transfer portal but is also testing the NBA Draft waters while retaining his college eligibility. He won't have to withdraw his name from NBA Draft consideration until April 27th, so a final decision from Theiro, who will likely field plenty of high-major offers during his transfer recruitment, won't come until much later this spring.

The Panthers lost leading scorer Blake Hinson to graduation and starting center Federiko Federiko and forward Will Jeffress to the transfer portal. They have three open scholarships remaining.
