Impressive Edge Rusher Visiting Pitt This Week

It’ll be an important week in recruiting for the Pitt Panthers. 

Throughout the week, several prospects are set to be on campus, including a very promising edge rusher from Texas in Obinna Umeh. 

Inside the Panthers churned out a report on Sunday highlighting three overlooked and/or undervalued edge recruits. The breakdown included a pair of prospects from the Lone Star State, including Umeh. 

Yesterday, while in Palo Alto, the 2026 prospect picked up an offer from Stanford. Given Umeh’s 4.11 GPA, it made sense that Stanford would join Ivy League schools in Cornell, Dartmouth, Harvard, Princeton, and Yale on his offer list. 

Rounding out his college options are Colorado State, Oklahoma State, Pitt, Rice, Tulsa, UNLV, and others. 

First, when it comes to evaluating Umeh, he absolutely looks the part of a Power Four-bound pass rusher. 

Tall, long, athletic, and stacked with lean muscle at 6-foot-4 and 225 pounds, if you tune into his junior season highlights, you may find yourself wondering why the Houston (Tx.) St. Thomas product isn’t much more prominent among national rankings. 

Last season, he put together 58 total tackles, 19 tackles for loss, five-and-a-half sacks, 19 hurries, four pass deflections, and a fumble recovery. 

After visiting Stanford this weekend, Umeh told Inside the Panthers that he’ll return to Houston this evening before departing for Pittsburgh early this week. 

Without question, the defensive line is important for the Pitt coaching staff in terms of the roster needs in the 2026 cycle. 

A promising recruit like Umeh could go a long way to tapping into those needs.
