Governors from Indiana and Connecticut have decided to place a friendly wager on Monday night's national championship between Purdue and UConn. The two political figures decided to partake in a little friendly banter prior on X prior to tipoff.

Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont first extended the friendly wager with a post on X. Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb gladly accepted the bet.

What's a stake? Some of the premier food items from both states.

"Hey (Gov. Holcomb), are you as excited about tonight's game as I am? How about we make this even more fun," Lamont wrote on X. "I'll bet you a beer from (Athletic Brewing), chocolates from Munson's and New Have-style pizza from Sally's Apizza that (UConn) wins the title and claims back-to-back victories."

"#BoilerUp!" Holcomb responded. "I'll take that bet and offer up Triple XXX root beer, Wick's Pies sugar cream pie and a pork tenderloin from Harry's Chocolate Shop. I look forward to having some Connecticut delicacies."

It's always really neat to see political figures show some level of investment in these type of sporting events. And now, some of the top food and beverage items from both states are at stake in Monday night's national championship.

UConn is looking to claim back-to-back national titles while Purdue is looking to win its first-ever NCAA Tournament.

Monday night's tipoff is scheduled for 9:20 p.m. ET. The game will air on TBS and the Huskies have opened as a 6.5-point favorite over the Boilermakers. It should be a fun way to close out the 2023-24 college basketball season.
