Rashee Rice Gets Rookie of Year Honors from Chiefs

Former Mustang played big role in KC's Super Bowl run and led team in touchdown catches

DALLAS — It didn’t take long for talk of a three-peat in Kansas City to start after the Chiefs won their second-straight Super Bowl victory. With Patrick Mahomes, anything is possible, but the Chiefs will need big seasons from others, too. A former SMU receiver will be a key part of that conversation.

A repeat performance from wide receiver Rashee Rice would go along with helping Kansas City win a third championship. Teammates acknowledged Rice’s superb rookie season on Thursday, voting for Rice as the team’s Rookie of the Year. Rice had 79 catches for 938 yards and a team-high seven touchdowns during the regular season. In the Chiefs’ four playoff games, Rice caught 26 passes for 262 yards and a touchdown.

Mahomes was voted the Chiefs MVP for the second-straight year after throwing for 4,183 yards and 27 touchdowns during the regular season. He was even better in the postseason, completing nearly 70 percent of his passes for 1,051 yards, six touchdowns and only one interception.

Now they are going to start the process for next year. With the best quarterback in the league coming back, now they will have the guy catching the most touchdowns last season and his teammates apparently realize that with the vote Now if they can get tight end Travis Kelce back for another year and he doesn't split up with Taylor Swift the pieces will be in place for a load of more expectations for a three-peat.
