Oscar Adaway III Discusses His Decision To Commit To South Carolina

South Carolina's Football program added transfer running back Oscar Adaway III to their revamped RB room in December. He talks about his decision.

During the first transfer portal cycle of the 2023 offseason, Shane Beamer and his staff didn't waste any time approaching areas of need head-on, going after some of the top players at those positions. Their running back room went from having only two scholarship running backs to a group that potentially goes five deep, addressing one of the team's biggest needs.

North Texas transfer Oscar Adaway III is one of those talented backs and will undoubtedly add to the room's overall talent and consistency. However, I don't think most know what type of running back Gamecock fans are getting, and admittedly, neither did I until I sat down and watched some of his reps.

Very quickly, you will realize just how patient of a back Adaway is and his ability to find the minor holes and subsequently explode through them. Not only that, but he also looks like an underrated pass catcher. He will need some work in pass protection, but don't be shocked if Oscar has plenty of success next season in South Carolina's offense.

I got to talk with Adaway about his ultimate choice to choose the Gamecocks, and his responses didn't disappoint.

When asked the ultimate reason for choosing South Carolina, he stated: "Bigger and better opportunities, to play on this level and to show off my talent is a true blessing. Also, after sitting and talking with coach Beamer and [Dowell Loggains], I feel it's a perfect fit for me."

Adaway has already gone through the recruiting process once before and, thus, wasn't terribly affected by Montario Hardesty being let go by the Gamecocks, saying, "I've done this commitment thing once, and rule number one is never to commit to a position coach. Always commit to the school and what it stands for. I'm here for the opportunity and to win."

Oscar Adaway may not be widely known, but he understands the opportunity that Shane Beamer and the Gamecocks can give him, stating, "I'm a guy that wants to win, a running back that does his job typically. Getting touchdowns and first downs. Any way possible if that's catching, running, or blocking for the QB."

South Carolina fans will see a running back in Oscar who is coachable, eager to learn and better himself and his game, and has bought into what Shane Beamer is trying to build here in Columbia. That alone should excite the Gamecock faithful about what Adaway could bring to this offense in 2024.
