What Lies Ahead For Shane Beamer?

Shane Beamer has excelled in his position as head coach through the first few years of his tenure, however 2023 offers the coach a chance to emerge into national spotlight.

Few coaches in college football have accomplished more than South Carolina Head Coach Shane Beamer has in just two seasons. Beamer has already achieved back-to-back top 10 wins, inked one of the highest recruits in program history, and cemented South Carolina as a perennial top 25 college football program. While those are already incredible accomplishments, 2023 offers Beamer the opportunity to shed the "new coach" title and emerge as one of the best coaches in the nation.

Beamer has continuously been touted as one of the best newcomers in college football due to his immense impact on South Carolina. While that may not seem negative necessarily, Beamer and South Carolina should be expecting to elevate themselves to the next level next season.

It is no secret that South Carolina's 2023 roster is loaded with talented football players. The 2022 team that won eight games in the regular season is returning many high-impact players like Spencer Rattler and Antwane Wells. Not to mention the oncoming talent like transfers Mario Anderson Jr. and Joshua Simon, as well as recruit Nyckoles Harbor, make up a team with a serious shot at the playoff.

When evaluating college head coaches, the primary things people look at are recruiting classes and wins and losses on the field. With back-to-back top 20 recruiting classes, Beamer has proved he is an elite recruiter. What he is missing are accolades to show that on-field success is real. Accomplishments like a top ten ranking or a New Year's Six Bowl are often the criteria needed to be considered amongst the best, and Beamer is missing both.

Coming into 2023, there is no reason South Carolina shouldn't expect to achieve both of those. South Carolina closed the year ranked 23 in the final CFP ranking. With the amount of talent returning to the team, jumping 13 spots should be the expectation.
