It's no secret that South Carolina's Football staff likes to offer young talented prospects early on, and that's on display once again with Jamar Owens.

Though the top 300 prospect rankings for the 2026 class are constantly evolving, the Gamecocks have set their eyes on a couple of national-level targets early on. Already securing the commitment of Mississippi quarterback Landon Duckworth, the coaching staff now has their eyes set on a 6-foot safety in Jamar Owens, who was offered this past Friday.

Shane Beamer and his staff like to try and build relationships early on with their targets, starting with dispensing early offers. They've done the same with Owens, for obvious reasons, as Owens led Jonesboro High School (Ga.) in tackles and interceptions as a true freshman. Jamar holds fourteen offers from programs like Michigan, Texas, Tennessee, Auburn, Georgia Tech, and now South Carolina. Still being early in the sophomore's recruitment, Owens has only visited Georgia and Florida State to this point.

The sophomore is a long, wiry prospect who displays tremendous ball skills and great hands to match. With three games remaining in the Georgia high school football regular season, the sophomore has accumulated 28 total tackles, three pass deflections, and two forced fumbles. The young prospect also has three receptions for 37 yards and one touchdown on offense.

Some other defensive back prospects the Gamecocks have their eyes on in 2026 are J'Zavien Currence, Aaron Gregory, Dorian Barney, Zelus Hicks, Jireh Edwards, Samari Matthews, Nassir McCoy, Jax Pope, Amari Jones, Xavier Leherisse, Ayden Pouncey, and Andre Clarke.
