Gamecock Signee Capsule: Elijah Caldwell

South Carolina's football program has made a late addition to the 2023 offensive recruiting class with in-state receiver Elijah Caldwell.

Justin Stepp and the rest of South Carolina's offensive coaching staff are in desperate need of wide receivers over the next twelve months considering the veteran exodus they'll endure after the 2023 season.

They're off to a good start with the pledge of Elijah Caldwell, who received an offer from Shane Beamer and the Gamecocks less than one month ago, and from that point forward, seemed to never look back despite at one time being committed to West Virginia.

Caldwell being in the fold means South Carolina is adding a wideout with an intriguing skillset that could make him an explosive play threat at the collegiate level.

Prospect: Elijah Caldwell

Projected Position: Wide Receiver

Vitals: 6-0 and 190 lbs, according to 247sports.

School: Northwestern High School (Rock Hill, South Carolina)

Frame: Has an SEC-ready body with a muscular frame that most receivers his age don't have.

Athleticism: Possesses above-average speed but makes most people pay with his acceleration and quick twitch ability on the line of scrimmage. He also showcases great body dexterity and hand-eye coordination when adjusting to downfield passes.

Instincts: Elijah is a nightmare for defenders outside the numbers due to his heightened awareness of where he is relative to the sideline, making it much easier on his quarterback to place the ball in his vicinity on key downs.

Polish: Caldwell's one area that he'll need to shore up at the next level is his route running on intermediate routes, which typically don't involve just a subtle weave or one-cut routes, but Elijah's athleticism can help him in this aspect.

Bottom Line: Elijah Caldwell's an extremely underrated signing at a position of need for the Gamecocks' 2023 class and could have a chance to earn early playing time in year one.
