3 Things To Watch During Texas A&M’s Spring Game

In this story:
It’s that time of year when the 12th Man gets its opportunity to check out what the football program has been working on over the last several months.
Preparation has finally begun for the upcoming 2026-27 campaign, and head coach Mike Elko and Co. are ready to get their unit suited up for the scrimmage between the entire squad.
There were several key additions to this year’s group, and several guys elected to stay with the program and run it back to try to bring a championship back to College Station. That makes this game more intriguing, showing the improvement and talent these athletes have, making the viewing experience much more enticing and compelling, with eyes circling in these rooms.
Quarterbacks

There are going to be three big names in the quarterback room that many fans are going to want to check out when this spring game rolls around in a couple of weeks. Obviously, A&M’s starting QB, Marcel Reed, will be out there on the field and might see a few reps before turning it over to either redshirt freshman Brady Hart and freshman Heleman Causuga, followed by work from the two youngsters, Eli Morcos and Paxton Land.
No one really knows what to expect because of the limited sample size the Aggies have seen from Hart and Casuga, but there will be a chunk of fans who cannot wait to applaud the duo when they step on the field.
There will be a battle for the No. 2 slot in the QB room, so there will be a lot of focus on who earns that spot, because he might be the future in Aggieland after Reed’s tenure in the Maroon and White.
Brady was a 4-star from all three major recruiting outlets and threw for 62 yards in the little action he got a year ago. As for Casuga, he is a Kona, Hawaii native who is a consensus 4-star by 247Sports, ESPN.com and Rivals/On3. He threw for 5,140 yards with Corner Canyon and recorded 55 touchdowns. There’s going to be an interesting contest on both sides to win that spot, so turn your eyes upon these two dynamic playmakers.
Tight Ends

As it stands, eight tight ends are competing for spots on the team, with many assuming the three who will win those spots could be Micah Riley, Houston Thomas, and Richie Anderson.
All three of these men transferred to Aggieland with hopes of taking their careers to the next step and into the NFL. Riley is an Auburn transfer who appeared in 29 games over three seasons. He had one catch for three yards in 2024 and two catches for 40 yards in 2023, so there is more there that can develop if he adapts to the system and culture.
As for Thomas, he was a UTSA transfer who attended College Station High School and is a hometown kid with high aspirations of being the next great TE out of A&M. He is a 6-foot-5 weapon who weighs 245 pounds, so checking out his blocking skills and explosive route-running will be fun to see.
Elko and Co. also brought in Anderson, who transferred from Fresno State as a sophomore and had 31 catches for 300 yards in his 2025 season. He caught five touchdowns and averaged 9.7 yards per catch, so maybe he’ll be utilized more in the new offensive system. Lots to find out from this group.
Defensive Line

In the next month, there will be numerous Aggies who get their name called in the 2026 NFL Draft, and several of those guys are going to include Elko’s troops that played on the defensive line, which includes edge Cashius Howell, and veteran tackles like Albery Regis, Dayon Hayes, and Tyler Onyedim.
Now that those guys are out of the room and have their next journey ahead of them, playing professional football, it opens the door to see who the next guys are going to be to fill the shies or the guys missing.
On the outside, it is anticipated that the 5-star Tristian Givens will get his chance to go tackle a man in the backfield, with help from guys competing with him for the position, like transfers, Anto Saka, Jonathan Maldonado, and Marco Jones.
The interior of the defensive line will feature guys like the two transfers, CJ Mims and Angelo McCullum, with support from returners such as DJ Hicks, Landyn Rinks, and DJ Sanders, so lots of competition is taking place in this tight-knit group.
