Mike Elko Comments On Controversial Statement From Texas A&M Aggies Star

Mike Elko was quick to reprimand his star defensive lineman on Thursday.

The Texas A&M Aggies are trying to forge a new identity along the defensive line this spring.

However, the one that defensive tackle DJ Hicks described is not one head coach Mike Elko is willing to condone.

During the team's press availability on Wednesday, Hicks was asked what the identity of the new-look Aggies defensive line will be, and what they learned from NFL-bound stars Shemar Stewart, Shemar Turner and Nic Scourton.

And his response was troubling to say the least, telling reporters that their new motto was 'C.B.O.'.

“Those guys really showed us how to be, how to be the best D-line we can be with their work ethic and how they went about their daily business,” Hicks said. “So, I think we still are trying to go through the model, still trying to stay with our motto with ‘C.B.O.’ That’s what we stand for and just trying to follow Coach Spence’s coaching and Coach Tony’s coaching and I think we’re going to make a big step this year.”

When asked exactly what that meant, Hicks' answer was a controversial one to say the least.

“In simple terms, choke a woman out," Hicks said. "Let’s say that.”

Elko, obviously wasn't a fan of what Hicks had to say, and was quick to condemn the words of his defensive tackle, calling the statement 'ridiculous.'

And rightfully so.

"It's conveying something that shouldn't be conveyed," Elko said. "We'll get that handled and addressed. That's absolutely ridiculous that that was stated." 

Hicks, who joined the Aggies as a five-star recruit and a critical member of the 2022 class, ranked as the No. 1 defensive tackle in the nation, and No. 7 overall prospect. He is also one of the few members of that famed class to remain in College Station to this day.

However, he has not had a major impact on the field yet, and is expected to take big step forward in 2025.
