Baseball: TCU Dominates UT Arlington 14-3 in a Midweek Showdown

Anthony Silva led the way for the Horned Frogs with 5 RBIs and 2 home runs.

After a dominant weekend series sweep over the Kansas Jayhawks, TCU continued its dominance with a 14-3 Tuesday night road victory over UT Arlington. For the third game in a row, the Horned Frogs produced double-digit runs, which is the first time all season such a streak has occurred for Kirk Saarloos’ offense.

The defense joined the offense with an impressive outing of its own, allowing just 3 runs on 6 hits. Freshman Braeden Sloan started on the mound for the Frogs and pitched for five innings. Sloan gave up 2 runs on 4 hits and struck out 7 batters, a career high. Allowing a two-run home run hit by Cade Sumbler in the bottom of the first inning was the only blunder on Sloan’s stat sheet.

TCU’ offense struck quickly, scoring two runs in the first inning on a Brayden Taylor RBI double and a Karson Bowen RBI single. After a scoreless second inning, the Horned Frogs scored in four straight innings. Anthony Silva sent a two-run shot to center field and Taylor recorded his second RBI of the game on a single, sending Tre Richardson home to make it a 6-2 ballgame in the fourth inning.

In the fifth inning, Silva homered again; this time it was a three-run shot. The Frogs tallied another two runs in the thanks to an RBI double to right field by Bowen and a run on a passed ball.

UTA scored a run in the eighth inning to make it an 11-3 score, but Cole Fontenelle’s three-run homer gave the Horned Frogs a 14-3 lead and victory.

Silva finished the game with a game-high 5 RBIs, but Fontenelle followed closely with 4 of his own.

After falling to 10-9 after a disappointing series loss to Oklahoma, TCU has won six straight and now sits at 16-9. The Frogs will travel to Lubbock, Texas to play Texas Tech from March 31- April 2. The Red Raiders are currently ranked No. 22 in the nation but are losers of four straight. The series will be available to watch on ESPN+.
