Baseball: West Virginia Transfer Ben Hampton Transfers to TCU

TCU has yet to conclude its season, and Kirk Saarloos is already adding players to next year's team via the portal. West Virginia lefty Ben Hampton, who started 16 games this season for the Mountaineers, will call Fort Worth home next season.
Hampton was West Virginia's Friday night starter for most of the year, posting a 4.45 ERA and striking out an average of 4.125 batters per outing. The lefty faced the Horned Frogs once this season, pitching for six innings and earning the win over his new squad. He allowed five hits and two earned runs and struck out four batters in the victory.
The best game of Hampton's junior season came against Kansas State when he pitched for 6.2 innings and struck out 10 Wildcat batters, meaning that half of the total outs, while he was in the game, were strikeouts. He finished the 2023 season with a 5-3 record, 85 innings pitched, 42 earned runs, and 66 strikeouts. He allowed a batting average of .279.
Throughout his career at West Virginia, Hampton started 41 games, struck out 203 batters, and posted a 4.62 ERA.
The rising senior is the most recent West Virginia player to join Saarloos' Frogs. Current TCU right fielder Austin Davis spent the first four seasons of his career in Morgantown and was teammates with Hampton during the 2021 and 2022 seasons.
With much of next year's pitching staff up in the air, Hampton's addition assures that TCU will have an experienced pitcher who can compete for a starting role.
