Big 12 Baseball Roundup: Three Teams Remain

Just three conference games remain on the schedule for every Big 12 baseball team, save for Baylor (whose conference slate is over). Last weekend's action eliminated many teams from the regular season conference race. Now, just three teams remain alive in the race: West Virginia, Oklahoma State, and Texas.
Kansas State, TCU, Texas Tech, and Oklahoma shift their focus to the Big 12 Tournament set for Memorial Day weekend.
Let's go over all the scenarios:
Each Team's Route To A Big 12 Title
All West Virginia has to do is win one of three games against Texas and the Big 12 regular season title is theirs. The Mountaineers own a head-to-head tiebreaker with Oklahoma State, who sits two games behind. A tie in record would give the nod to West Virginia.
WVU's opponent, Texas, must sweep West Virginia and hope Oklahoma sweeps Oklahoma State in order to take the belt. The Longhorns hold a tiebreaker over Kansas State, but not to OSU. Thanks to this past weekend's series win over Kansas State, the Pokes can win the conference with a sweep of Oklahoma and if WVU gets swept by Texas.
Unfortunately for K-State, even a sweep over TCU won't get them the title. Texas holds the head-to-head tiebreaker over them and one win by WVU keeps the Mountaineers ahead.
Week 13 Series Results:
- Oklahoma OVER Gonzaga, 3-0
- Oklahoma State OVER Kansas State, 2-1
- TCU OVER Baylor, 3-0
- Texas OVER San Jose State, 2-1
- Samford OVER Kansas, 2-1
- West Virginia OVER Texas Tech, 2-1
Team That Impressed Me The Most
Really this applies to the season as a whole, but the West Virginia Mountaineers take the award home after Week 13. They won two of three against a very dangerous Texas Tech team at home with the conference in the balance. Even one additional loss this past weekend would have put their hold on the league in question.
Now, they're a single win away from winning the Big 12.
However, as we've seen in the conference tournament, regular season victors rarely also win in the postseason.
Notable Performances
Eric Kennedy, OF, Texas: The redshirt senior notched his 13th, 14th, and 15th home runs of the season this weekend against San Jose State, widening his team lead. Kennedy has had a spectacular final season with the 'Horns, batting .324 and notching 43 RBI.
Caleb McNeely, West Virginia: McNeely hit a critical go-ahead two-run homer Sunday with the series with Texas Tech knotted 1-1 and Sunday's score knotted 3-3. WVU never gave up that lead and that HR quite possibly could have locked up the conference for the Mountaineers/
Reed Carlson, RP, West Virginia: I hate to put so much stake in a single game compared to a full weekend's slate, but with relatively few close in-conference games to choose from, Carlson jumps up. He pitched the final two innings after McNeely's go-ahead home run, striking out four of seven batters faced and notched his seventh save.
