TCU Baseball: Comeback Frogs Rally Again for Second Straight Win

Down six in back-to-back games, TCU found a way in the late innings to take their second straight comeback victory.

No. 5 ranked TCU found themselves trailing by six headed to the sixth inning. Just as they did the night before, they rallied in the late innings to secure a 13-10 win over FGCU

A fast start put the Frogs up 3-0 in the first two innings. A leadoff home run by Peyton Chatagnier got TCU on the board, and a double by Anthony Silva made it 2-0. However, the Eagles responded with three home runs in four batters to possess a 4-3 advantage. The lead grew to 10-4 through five.

Chase Brunson put TCU right back into the game with a two-run shot to left field. A few batters after a solo homer from Luke Boyers, a two-RBI single from Kurtis Byrne brought the deficit to one.

The knockout blow came in the eighth inning from the cleanup hitter Payton Tolle. On a 2-2 pitch, he cranked a ball to right field, giving the Horned Frogs a 12-10 lead. His teammates met the transfer from Wichita State at home plate, and the comeback was nearly complete.

Ben Abeldt recorded the final three outs to secure the save. The starter, Kole Klecker, went three innings giving up seven hits on four earned runs with four strikeouts. The sophomore was pounding the strike zone but left a few pitches up, and the home run ball hurt him.

Regardless, it is another comeback win for the Frogs. The resiliency and magic of last year's ballclub is shining through in 2024. TCU goes to 2-0 and will look for the series sweep tomorrow at 12:30 on ESPN+. Zack Morris will toe the rubber for the Horned Frogs.
