TCU Baseball Comes Up Short in Game 2 Against Oklahoma
There wasn't quite enough Lupton Magic to help TCU pull off another comeback win against Oklahoma on Saturday. The Frogs lost their second consecutive game 7-5.
It was a pitching duel through the first three innings as Kole Klecker only allowed two hits, and Brendan Girton held TCU hitless.
In the bottom of the fourth, Logan Maxwell produced the first TCU hit of the ballgame, and there were runners on second and third with no outs. Payton Tolle recorded an RBI groundout to get the first run on the board. Maxwell would score on a wild pitch to make it 2-0 Frogs.
The Sooners would respond quickly after scoring on an error; Bryce Madron hit a three-run shot to right field to make it 4-2. The home run hurt Klecker again as his night ended after such a promising start. He went 4.1 innings giving up five hits, three earned runs, two walks, and three strikeouts.
It was 5-2 heading to the bottom of the eighth, but the Frogs weren't done yet. Anthony Silva delivered a two-RBI single to make it 5-4. Silva stole second and third, and Karson Bowen came through with a single to right field to tie the game. A massive credit goes to Hunter Hodges, who kept TCU in this ballgame. He went 3.1 giving up one run on five strikeouts.
Zack Morris pitched the top of the ninth, and a pinch hit home run by Carter Frederick gave the Sooners the lead. TCU was sat in order in the bottom of the ninth.
This will be the second consecutive series loss for the Horned Frogs. Baseball has its ups and downs, and we certainly cannot expect this TCU team to win every series. The pitching seems to be the biggest issue right now but the talent is there.
The Frogs look to salvage game three as Braeden Sloan will toe the rubber for TCU. First pitch is at 1 p.m.
