TCU Baseball: Frogs Host Lamar in Midweek Action

The TCU Horned Frogs (22-14, 7-5 Big 12) end their four-game homestand with a Tuesday night game against the Lamar Cardinals (19-12, 5-7 Southland).
Braeden Sloan (2-2) will take the mound. This will be the 20th home game of the season for the Frogs. So far this year, TCU is a rather disappointing 12-7 at Lupton Stadium.
This will be the 24th meeting between the two programs. TCU holds a 13-10 lead in the series, including 4-1 at Lupton. The last time the two teams met was in 2019, with the Cardinals winning 10-5.
Lamar dropped a road series this past weekend against Incarnate Word but did win Sunday’s game 6-1. The win snapped a four-game losing streak. The Cardinals are 4-5 in midweek action this season. However, they are 2-1 this season in midweek games against Power Five teams with wins over Texas A&M and Kansas State. Their one P5 loss was to No. 1 LSU.
Tuesday’s game marks the end of a nine-game road trip for the Cardinals. They are 2-6 during this stretch.
Lamar, as a team, is hitting .247, owns a 4.19 ERA, and boasts a .977 fielding percentage. Outfielder Ben MacNaughton leads the team with a .317 batting average. He also leads the team with 20 of the team’s 46 steals. Catcher Ryan Snell leads the team with 12 home runs and 36 RBIs.
Defensively, they have only allowed 13 stolen bases on 25 attempts. On the other hand, TCU has 88 stolen bases, tied with Kansas State for the most in the Big 12 and 10th nationally. The Frogs have stolen a base in 16 straight games and are 61-of-62 during that stretch in steal attempts.
Frogs third baseman Brayden Taylor hit three home runs over the weekend. His 38 career home runs rank him fourth all-time at TCU. He needs just one more to move into third place all-time.
