TCU Baseball Drops Series Opener to Texas Saturday

After the series got pushed back a day due to the weather in Fort Worth Friday, Texas was able to walk into Lupton Field and defeat the Frogs 8-4.

Pitching has been a weak spot for this team all season, and it continued tonight.

Freshman Kole Klecker took the bump for the Frogs, but he was unable to make it out of the third inning. Klecker finished his night, giving up six runs on eight hits over 2.2 innings of work. This performance bumped his ERA up to 5.37 on the campaign.

Klecker got into trouble early, allowing a run in the first inning on a sacrifice fly, then allowing two homeruns in consecutive innings.

Texas center fielder Eric Kennedy hit home runs in both the second and third inning off Klecker, and Klecker was pulled after Tanner Carlson made it back-to-back homers in the third inning.

Although it wasn't enough to mount a comeback, the Frogs were able to bring a bit of the power stroke to the field themselves.

Karson Bowen, who had one of the season's biggest hits Tuesday, whacked a two-run shot the other way in the bottom of the fourth inning. Then, in the seventh inning, freshman shortstop Anthony Silva launched one out to center field. Silva's homer made it a 7-4 ballgame before Texas added an insurance run in the ninth courtesy of former Frog Porter Brown.

This loss drops the Frogs' record to 23-19 on the campaign. They also fell to 7-9 in conference play.

They'll look to bounce back Sunday at 3 p.m. CT.
