Where Does TCU Rank In Preseason College Baseball Polls?

Just a few weeks ago, the TCU Horned Frogs were picked to win the Big 12 in 2023 by the conference coaches. With the season officially starting up Feb. 17, where does TCU rank nationally?
Over the past few years, the Big 12 was one of the strongest conferences nationally. However, with a mass exodus of experience and talent after last year– a year in which Oklahoma was the national runner up– preseason projections have the conference taking a backseat to the ACC and Pac-12.
In this instance, being projected to win the Big 12 doesn't buy you a spot inside the top 10.
TCU Preseason Rankings
Unlike college football and basketball, college baseball has no set ranking. The AP doesn't release a poll and neither does the NCAA nor a governing body. Instead, we look to established publications for these rankings, which differ quite a bit. Of course, the only ranking that matters is landing inside the final eight in Omaha.
The three polls used to gauge TCU's preseason rank are from:
- D1 Baseball
- College Baseball Nation
- Baseball America
While there's no consensus on where the Frogs rank preseason, two sources agree. Baseball America is the most bullish on TCU, ranking them 14th while D1 Baseball places them 15th. College Baseball Nation disagrees, putting TCU 27th nationally, behind Texas, Oklahoma State, and Texas Tech in the polls.
D1 Baseball also slots the Pokes ahead of TCU while Baseball America puts the Frogs one spot ahead.
The consensus ranking may not be clear, but one thing is– the Big 12 won't be won easily.
Where The Rest Of The Big 12 Falls
Between the three polls, four teams from the Big 12 fall inside the top 25: TCU, Oklahoma State, Texas Tech, and Texas. College Baseball Nation is the only poll who slots the Longhorns inside the top 25 while the Pokes and Red Raiders were unanimous choices.
Oklahoma State upended TCU in the Big 12 Tournament a season ago, but were bested themselves by Texas.
D1 Baseball's 2022 rankings were fairly accurate, getting four of the final eight correct (Texas, Arkansas, Ole Miss, Stanford) while three teams ranked outside the Top 25 altogether (Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Auburn).
The other two publications performed similarly.
