#15 TCU Baseball Rolls Past #8 Arkansas at Globe Life Field

No. 15 TCU’s offense stays hot as they cruise past No.8 Arkansas for a 18-6 victory.

David Bishop got TCU on the board early in the first inning, roping a two-out, two-run double after shortstop John Bolton bobbled a potential inning-ending double play. Luke Boyers drove in Bishop in his next at-bat, giving the Frogs an early 3-0 lead.

Arkansas answered back in the bottom half of the inning, as left-fielder Jared Wegner slugged a three-run homerun with two outs to tie the ball game.

Neither starter was able to make it out of the second inning tonight.

The Razorback starter Will McEntire was pulled after only an inning and a third of work, giving up five hits and four earned runs. Off left-handed reliever Zack Morris, the Frogs re-gained a 4-3 lead in the second inning on an Elijah Nunez fielder’s choice.

Once again, the Razorbacks flexed their muscles to tie the game again as catcher Hudson Polk from Coppell, Texas, homered.

When Arkansas threatened with runners on the corners in a 4-4 ball game,  Kirk Sarloos decided to pull Cam Brown after an inning and two thirds.

After back-to-back scoreless frames, designated hitter Cole Fontenelle’s two-out RBI single gave TCU a 5-4 lead in the top of the fifth inning. Anthony Silva drew a bases loaded walk later in the inning to give the Frogs an insurance run, giving them a 6-4 lead in the middle of the fifth inning.

In his debut, freshman Kole Klecker pitched 4.1 innings, striking out six and only giving up one run. The lone run came on a home run from Kendall Diggs in the bottom of the sixth inning.

After the Frogs scored four in the top of the sixth, making the score 10-4, one of the biggest moments in the game came in the top of the seventh inning when Austin Davis homered. The entire at-bat, he was getting booed by Arkansas fans in attendance after dropping down to bunt twice and asking for pine tar. Davis topped off his blast with and emphatic bat flip. Davis added two more runs in the eighth when he doubled home two and the scored again to break it open 14-5 in the eighth.

The Frogs added four more runs in the top of the ninth, making it 18-5.

Two more TCU pitchers made their collegiate debuts. Freshman Ben Abledt came on in the seventh, and freshman Justin Hackett finished things off in the ninth.

TCU looks to sweep the College Baseball Showdown as they take on Missouri, coming off a walk-off win over Texas, tomorrow at 6:30 p.m. CT.
