Big 12 Men’s Basketball Midweek Rundown: Oklahoma and Tech Get Big Home Wins

In this story:
We keep saying that the Big 12 is a gauntlet. With six ranked teams, nearly every Big 12 game will feature at least one ranked opponent, sometimes two. Any team can beat any other team on any given day.
This week’s games had four ranked teams, each facing an unranked team and one matchup with both teams ranked. On Monday, No. 9 Baylor easily took care of West Virginia. And Texas Tech’s home win streak against ranked opponents continued with an upset over No. 6 Texas. Tuesday’s games had both teams from Kansas traveling to games in Oklahoma. The Sooners got the win over No. 12 K-State, while No. 5 Kansas ended Oklahoma State's winning streak. The only game featuring two ranked opponents (at least for this week) was on Wednesday, as No. 19 Iowa State gave No. 22 TCU its fourth-straight loss.
Here are some other interesting stats about the conference:
- After the midweek games, there is now a three-way tie for first place in the league,e with Baylor, Kansas, and Texas all at 9-4. Iowa State is next at 8-5, followed by Kansas State and Oklahoma State at 7-6.
- The Big 12 is the only league in which all teams are at .500 or above and one of just two leagues with every team having double-digit wins.
- A nation-high 60% of the league is ranked in the Top 25 in both the AP Top 25 and the Coaches Poll.
- All teams in the league are in the Top 66 of NET rankings; the only league to accomplish this. Kansas is ranked No. 7, followed by Texas (9), Baylor (10), Iowa State (15), Kansas State (20), West Virginia (22), TCU (24), Oklahoma State (32), Texas Tech (59), and Oklahoma (66).
- The Big 12 conference NET ranking of 26.7 is the lowest of all leagues; the next lowest is at 58.5 (Big Ten).
- Kansas has 12 Quad 1 wins, which leads the nation. Texas and Baylor are tied for second in the nation with nine each.
- The Big 12’s 9.7-point scoring margin in conference games is the lowest of all power leagues. 38.5 percent (25-65) of league games have been decided by 5-or-fewer points, second among conferences.
