Big 12 Football: Week 11 Matchups and Predictions

With half of the league’s teams with just one or two losses, every game in the remaining three weeks is critical.

Three weeks remain in the regular season, and the race for which teams will meet in Arlington for the Big 12 Championship is tight. Texas and Oklahoma State, each with just one loss, are in the driver’s seat for a berth. However, five other teams – Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, Oklahoma, and West Virginia –have two losses and are still in contention.

Texas and TCU face each other in a Week 11 game with major postseason implications on the line.

2023 Big 12 Predictions Results

On the season, I am 52-32 (.619) in predicting Big 12 games. Last week, I went 5-2. I thought Kansas State would pull off the upset over Texas, and they almost did just that but failed on a 4th down attempt in overtime. I also had Iowa State winning at home, but Kansas won that game.

Here are the previous predictions from earlier this season:

Big 12 Week 11 Matchups and Predictions

All times listed are Central Time.

#16 Kansas (7-2, 4-2) vs. Texas Tech (4-5, 3-3)

Saturday, 11 a.m., FS1

This is a potential trap game for the Jayhawks if they get caught looking ahead to the Sunflower Showdown in Lawrence next week. Kansas is bowl eligible for the second straight year and is in contention for a berth in Arlington. Look for the Jayhawks to stay focused.

Pick: Kansas

#25 Kansas State (6-3, 4-2) vs. Baylor (3-6, 2-4)

Saturday, 2 p.m., Big 12 Now on ESPN+

The Cats came back from 20 points down last week to force overtime against Texas. They opted for a 2-point conversion attempt instead of forcing a 2nd OT with a PAT. It was a gutsy call, but they took the chance to beat a top-ten team on the road. If K-State can do that to Texas, they will have no problem with a struggling Baylor team, especially at home at The Bill. The Cats win and remain hopeful for a return trip to Arlington.

Pick: Kansas State

UCF (4-5, 1-5) vs. #15 Oklahoma State (7-2, 5-1

Saturday, 2:30 p.m., ESPN

Three weeks ago, UCF almost won its first Big 12 against Oklahoma. They finally got that first win last week against Cincinnati. They can get a second win when they host a now-surging Oklahoma State in the Bounce House. But OSU is surging because of Ollie Gordon, who has rushed for 125+ yards in five straight games. However, Gordon is hurt and won’t be 100%. Every year, there’s a Poke Choke. We thought it was earlier this year against South Alabama. Nope. It comes this week and keeps the Pokes out of the championship game.

Pick: UCF

Houston (4-5, 2-4) vs. Cincinnati (2-7, 0-6)

Saturday, 6 p.m., FS1

One of the “newbies” has to win. Will Cincinnati finally get that Big 12 win? Or will Houston get one game closer to being bowl eligible? I think this will be a close game, but probably one not worth watching. Let’s give the Coogs a slight advantage.

Pick: Houston

#17 Oklahoma (7-2, 4-2) vs. West Virginia (6-3, 4-2)

Saturday, 6 p.m., Fox

The Sooners have lost two straight. Sure, West Virginia is much better than anticipated. And the Mountaineers have a way of being a thorn in the Sooners’ side, especially in Norman. Those games are always close. Oklahoma is too good of a team this year to lose three straight. It will be a squeaker, but OU gets the win.

Pick: Oklahoma

TCU (4-5, 2-4) vs. #7 Texas (8-1, 5-1)

Saturday, 6:30 p.m., ABC

Yes, since joining the Big 12, TCU holds an 8-3 record over Texas. And yes, the game will be in Fort Worth with an emotional crowd when Texas comes to town for foreseeably the last time. There’s a chance that the Frogs will figure this out and pull off the miracle. But more likely, this game gets ugly very quickly. Longhorns get one step closer to Arlington.

Pick: Texas

BYU (5-4, 3-3) vs. Iowa State (5-4, 4-2)

Saturday, 9:15 p.m., ESPN

The winner of this game gets to go bowling. The Cyclones are still in contention for a berth in Arlington and do hold the tiebreaker over Oklahoma State if it comes down to that. BYU is not that great this year, but they have played better in Provo than on the road. However, last week Kedon Slovis did not start, and he’s day-to-day due to a shoulder injury. BYU with Slovis is still not a great team. BYU without Slovis is “atrocious” as one of our writers likes to say.

Pick: Iowa State
