TCU Football: Week Three Player of the Week

TCU's offense tallied 564 yards in its dominant road win over Houston.

When your offense is as productive as it was for TCU Saturday, it's tough to reward just one player, but that is the entire point of this article series, so I had a decision to make.

Last week's recipient, Chandler Morris, had another good showing against the Cougars, throwing for 314 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception, and he did so by spreading the ball around everywhere as ten Horned Frog receivers caught a pass. JP Richardson had six catches for 60 yards, and Savion Williams had three catches for 54 yards and a touchdown. Morris also added 53 yards on the ground, but despite that, I am going in a different direction this week.

Emani Bailey against Houston

TCU running back Emanin Bailey - Week Three KillerFrogs Player of the Week winner

Emani Bailey ran the ball 23 times for 126 yards and a touchdown, enough for him to receive the very illustrious KillerFrogs Player of the Week Award. Some might say he was snubbed from the honors in Week One after rushing for 164 yards against Colorado while averaging 11.7 yards per carry. Regardless, he won it this week and left little doubt.

Bailey may not be a name many outside fans know well, but I will bet they will all know it soon. He ranks sixth in the country and first in the Big 12 in total rushing yards with 357 in three games. If there's one word to describe Bailey, it is productive. The junior is averaging 119 yards per game and 6.4 yards per carry this season. His 2022 numbers were not all that impressive, mostly because he was the second string to Kendre Miller, but he still led the Big 12 with 8.1 yards per carry.

The combination of balance and speed is always good to have as a running back and hard to stop as a defender, and Bailey has it. He displayed these traits when he found the end zone in the second quarter against Houston as he effortlessly made the tackler miss before scoring.

The Horned Frogs welcome crosstown rival SMU to Fort Worth this week, and so far, SMU has done a decent job stopping the run, but TCU can certainly win that battle. Against the non-Power Five opponents they have played (Louisiana Tech, Prairie View A&M), the Mustangs allowed a total of 122 rushing yards. Against Power Five Oklahoma, SMU surrendered 189 rush yards. Bailey will have a chance to be a difference maker again this week as the Frogs hope to stay in the win column.
